History[edit]
The museum is located in a 19th century cottage which was purchased by the Scottish artist, Sir George Reid in 1867.[2] It was acquired by the War Office in 1960 and then, after being transferred to the ownership of the trustees of the regiment in 1994, it was extended and re-opened as a museum in 1997.[2]
The collection[edit]
The museum contains uniforms, medals and weapons along with media exhibits such as film and photography. It is the home of the Aberdeen Modelers Society (AMS) who work closely with the museum on specific projects and displays connected to the role and service of the Gordon Highlanders.[3] The museum is independent, self-financed and is governed by a charitable trust. Its finances come predominantly from fundraisers and donations.[4]
