SNAC, or Social Networks and Archival Context, is an online effort for discovering, locating, and using distributed historical records. It was started by a collaboration of United States-based organizations.

Description[edit]


Social Networks and Archival Context (SNAC), is an online effort for discovering, locating, and using distributed historical records.[1] It SNAC undertakes research and development for, as it describes, "separating the description of people from the description of the historical records that were created by them and that document their lives and work".[2][3]



History[edit]


SNAC was established in 2010, with funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH)[4] by the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA),[5]California Digital Library (CDL), Institute for Advanced Technology in the Humanities (IATH) at the University of Virginia and the University of California, Berkeley School of Information.[6][7][8][9]
