Lamont is a crater in the Thaumasia quadrangle of Mars, located at 58.6°S latitude and 113.6°W longitude. It is 76.0 kilometers in diameter and was named after Johann von Lamont. The name was approved by IAU's Working Group for Planetary System Nomenclature in 1973.[1]
Nearby named craters include Ross nearly to the east and hundreds of kilometers north-northwest is Brashear.
In the northwest, it is attached with a smaller unnamed crater. The surrounding landscape are mountainous but north and west-southwest are relatively a plain. The area around the crater composes of dunes.
