極道（日语：極道／ごくどう Gokudō），俗稱ヤクザ Yakuza，指的是是日本社会裡從事暴力或有组织犯罪活动的人士或团体。“ヤクザ”这一俗稱是來自日本紙牌遊戲花札（玩法一說是「おいちょかぶ」）的一個最壞組合「八九三」（ヤクザ）。或說是指鄉里仲裁糾紛的單位「役座」（ヤクザ）而來，因為江湖人士總是處於糾紛之中。還有人說是黑道人士作風高調，就像歌舞伎的演員「役者」（やくしゃ）一樣，轉音而成的[2]。
歷史上，是來自於奉祀神農大帝、天照大神、八幡大菩薩、春日權現等神祇的商業團體衍生而成。江戶時代神社廟會週邊的攤商被稱為「的屋」（奉祀神農大帝、天照大神）；及經營賭場的「博徒」（奉祀春日權現、八幡大菩薩），然而現代的日本黑道，他們的儀式活動，仍繼承過去「的屋」與「博徒」的影子。
雖然他們都自命為「任俠團體」，但通常日本政府和警方把他们指為暴力團，又公告了所谓的指定暴力团，華人熟知的山口組是其中之一。
